2018 Cycling Wrap Up: Personal Best, Looking Back, Looking Forward
There’s still a little over a week left in 2018, but I’ve been thinking about writing a wrap up post for the year. Wow! What a year in the saddle. I’ve set a new personal best for miles bicycled in a year: 6,541 miles. My previous record is just over 5,000 miles. Last year I rode 4,707 miles. So this has been a big jump.

Each data point is one month’s total of bike mileage since January 2016.
I’m really happy with the effort I’ve put in this year and the results I got back. I lost 40 pounds (watching what I ate in addition to the increased mileage). My average speed is back up. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to improve like this -- and the motivation to take advantage of the opportunity.
I’ve been back in winter mode lately, riding three or four days a week supplemented with some weightlifting.
If the winter is mild I think 2019 might be the year I crack 7,000 miles in a year.
Here’s my draft schedule for 2019:

Let's plan on doing at least the Marathon Ride, Ride for Angels, and H2B together. From there, we'll wing it. Seattle to Portland sounds like fun!
